Thursday First Week of Lent

Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asks for a fish? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him. “Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.”

Matthew 7:9-12

Here Jesus gives us what seems like a simple task on the surface, treat others the way you want to be treated. Yet, the Golden Rule can sometimes be immensely challenging. It is easy to be kind and polite to someone when everything is going the way we want. However, it becomes much more difficult when we feel the other person is not treating us fairly or has wronged us in some way. Yet, these may be the people that we most need to be kind and polite towards.

Spend some time today praying for the strength to live by the Golden Rule even when it is most difficult.
